Started the week by grinding off the welds on the front mud wing, revealing a few pinholes along the way, most of which I managed to weld up succesfully. The results look very good, so far. A few other odd jobs included installing the remaining screws in the horizontal beading where the holes had become enlarged and needed padding out. Attention then turned to reassembling the MW nearside rear axle and starting work on the offside, which required a lot of cleaning down. In between I continued work on the new battery boxes for HUO.

Collected the new fron mudwing, in two halves from Geoff Brown, he made a superb job of it. Continued working on the MW after that, making gaskets and fitting oilseals etc. Once all the components were ready for assembly, I left that job and moved on to fitting the new front mudwing on HUO. I first mounted the front half to ensure alignment with the front dash, then positioned the second and marked it up for trimming. Having trimmed it, I tack welded it together, then completed the welding. Looking at the photo of HUO 513, I need to narrow it off a bit before final fitting.

This week work has returned to the boot. I made a template for the boot floor and then cut a piece of new lino for it. Rebecca helped to glue down the lino, however we didn’t quite get it in exactly the correct position so some remedial work is needed. I was annoyed to find the new lino had some cuts and scratches in it that were not done by us! Having fitted the lino, I was able to fit the new steel sill (after painting the underside) that I made a while ago, then I hung the doors. This revealed several fitting problems that hopefully I can overcome by shimming the hinges.
In between doing the above, I found time to paint the step light inside with some white paint and cut two rubber gaskets, one for mounting against the body and the other for sealing the lid to the base. I also found some thin clear acrylic so I cut two pieces to form one thick piece for the small window in the light. Still waiting for the brass hinge split pins to arrive.
