This week’s work has been concerned with the rear route number box.  I removed the outer panelwork around the  box  with a view to removing the number roll frame, but found that ti required a lot of work that was likely to be very difficult and invasive, so I decided not to proceed with that but to treat the visible corrosion of the window frame at a later date, concentrating instead on removing rust from the centre rollers instead.  I also decided to change the bulbs in the front destination box from 20W to 12W, these have now arrived so that will be a relatively easy job for next week.

Started the week by finishing the end caps and assembling the replacement destination blind rollers.  Next job was to wind the blind fully onto the bottom roller and attach it to the new top roller.  Then I was able to wind it into the destination box and attach it to the new bottom roller that I had previously installed.  Having done that, it was clear that the 20W bulbs in the destination blind box were too bright, so I need to find some lower wattage ones, but all I could find was 5W LED types, so I ordered some to see what they are like.   Investigation and cleaning of the number roll blinds revealed that there may be three usable, but a fourth appears to be the incorrect typeface.  I found the fixing strips for the roll ends to badly rusted in a few cases, so started on cleaned them up and painting them.   In between coats, I cut a piece of ply left over from rebuilding the boot to make a separator for the destination text and route number, to fill the gap caused by the slightly narrow destination blind.  I then fixed it in position and painted it satin black.  Last job of the week was to start rust removal on the number rollers in the the rear route number box.

Started the week by freeing up the destination  blind winding gear, then fitted the spring plate and bulbs.  A quick application of power revealed that the wiring is sound.  Tried to fit the blind that was in the bus, only to find that the rollers were slightly too short, so some modification is required.    I found some tube that was suitable, so made new rollers of the correct length, which required some engineering to fit the end pieces, by boring out the internal diameter by a few thou in the lathe.  I was working on the last end piece at the end of the week.
