Tidied up the wiring through the cab.  Stripped and painted the cab headlight mounting and pod, ready for refitting.  Made a new outer for the speedo cable which entailed turning a new speedo end fitting from aluminium and devising a way to lock it to the the cable outer, which I made from flexible conduit as used for the wiring.  After several 8uncuccesful attempts I cut slots in the fitting where the outer cable slides in, annealed the fitting then calmped it tight with a jubille clip.  Remanufacturing the speedo cable too the best part of a week.  Next I stripped the paint from the cover that fits over the through wiring in the cab , primed and painted it.  Next job to be addressed was to manufacture a new vacuum tube to the autovac from the exhauster.  I managed to get it the right shape after a bit of trial and error but having trouble soldering the steel nipple at the exhauster end so will replace this with a brass one.

From this post onwards, the date in the title represents the “week ending” so will usually be a Sunday.  The new inner stress panel for the o/s of the cab has been painted on the outside and fitted.  Prior to this, the woodwork around that area was sanded and primed.  The outside dash panel under the windscreen has been cleaned back to bare metal and primed.   The cab floor immediately above the steps has beed cleaned back to bare metal and primed to facilitate refitting the floor section that joins this to the new stress panel.  All the woodwork inside the cab has been primed ready for brown undercoat.

A wiring diagram for the cab was created and uploaded to the documents page.

A coat of grey was applied to the last of the window openings and the area of framing behind the rear wheelarch today.  After that I continued preparing to remove the entrance steps.  This has the added advantage of increasing access to the steel roof reinforcement that is awaiting repair, because of the amount of panelwork that has to be removed to get at the mounting for the steps.  I removed the valance that trims the left-hand side of the entrance and the cladding for the entrance pillar.   This has been sanded ready for priming and painting.   A time-consuming activity due to the use of tiny wood screws and pins to hold the panels in place, all of which have to be removed in order that the area in question can be reassembled.

Removal of some of the wood cappings in the lobby revealed the wiring for the lighting, which is convenient.
