Some repair was required to the uppermost step frame where it had corroded through.  This was welded up as was some damage to the corners where I had to cut through the fixing rivets to remove the side plates.  A great deal of some sort of rubber mastic was removed from the lower step where it was jointed to the riser panel.  The riser panel was very crudely made so I removed it with a view to making a replacement tomorrow.
